Sorry meant to say with the GL MM coming out. I think they will, collectors have been clamoring for a 6inch Reeves. Also a Keaton Batman,I think with the new DCD statue that might be a possability. Hopefully we will see these at the chicago con or SDCC.

Yeah as far as I know, Mattel has the rights to do any figure from any DC source material... including the Superman films. Maybe they're waiting for the new Superman: Man of Steel movie (that Goyer is working on) to release the Superman line... but then again, they didn't release Burton or Shoemacher figures when the Nolan films were capitalizing.. so who knows.

They still have to get likeness rights.

I would think that the likeness rights go along with the other marketing rights in the movie contract. Maybe the company just did not think that far ahead then though.

Either way, I hated Reeves as superman and dont want this figure.

Likeness rights are often seperate from the actual movie rights, especially with older films. Merchandising wasn't such a big thing until the 60's-70's, and the idea of worrying about accurate likenesses with action figures wasn't really a concern until the 90's at the earliest. Thus we had a bunch of Dracula figures over the years, but we were not able to get Lugosi Dracula that looked like old Bela until Charlie Flatt was able to negotiate with the Lugosi estate to do so (I beleive Sideshow was able to get those rights, as well, soon after).

I would immagine they's need approval from all the actors/families to do accurate Superman movie figures, just as they did with Ghostbusters. Some movies today have clearer rights agreements, but most of the time actors still have some power of aprroval from what I've seen (I think they'd be foolish not to have some form of contractual control over how their face is used).

I believe we have Leonard Nimoy to thank for that.

If they don't have the likeness rights for Chris then there can't be a 12inch figure coming.

I also think Mattel should stick w/ what they know and do Movie Masters Zod and Chris Reeve Superman.

Mattel, please stop making articulated copies of the original MOTU toys as a rule and only use old elements that still hold up to today's standards.

We know they can do reeves hence the title of the thread. As far as like Batman(keaton ) They may have movie rights but they still need to get likeness rights from Michael Keaton.

Again, depends on the deal. I'd hope they would get the likeness rights for any size/type figure they do, but we don't know for sure if the deal was for one use (I seriously doubt it, but ya never know).

Me, I'd love to get movie versions of Reeve, Hackman and the three Phantom Zone villains. I'd flip for an Otis or Miss Tessmacher, as well. But that would be a major effort to get all those folks to sign on for something likely to only be on Matty. But they were able to get the Reeve estate and Stamp to okay the two 12 inchers, so it's apparently not impossible.

At least there's hope for a Christopher Reeve Movie Master figure. Check out the last question in Matty's 05/14 Q&A

I don't think that'll be so easy for them to do now that the Siegel family has partial rights for Superman's licensing back now, with Shuster's estate getting theirs in 2013.

Then again maybe they'll get that mess cleared up in the next year or so before the JLA movie (which, of course, had better have movie masters figures for more than 3 or 4 characters...) comes out.
