I've decided to stop trying to order figures from Mattycollector. Too much hassle! I'll settle for pre-ordering the ones I want from a reasonably priced eBay seller. Sure, I'll pay $15 to $25 more, but at least I know I'll be getting the figure I want, instead of getting the runaround. Moss Man's instant unavailability was the final straw for this collector. I know buying off eBay frequently puts money in the hands of scalping vermin, but it's the only solution Mattel has left for me.

I have a family and a career; spending time worrying about whether I can log on to Mattycollector in the two-minute buying window for figures is unacceptable. After months of anticipation, getting the big let-down isn't worth it, not even for MOTU figures.

Mattel has proven that it cannot AFTER ALL THIS TIME figure out a way to sell MOTU Classics a la carte to meet the demand for these figures, so I am done with Mattycollector.

I caved and got one reasonably priced from someone on ebay. Matty won't be getting any money from me on the reissue. I wasn't even that keen on getting moss man until I had him in my cart, went straight to check out and boom "item not in stock".

I totally hear you Invisiboy. I have had it with the Digital River shopping cart and their brand of customer service.

My complaint has never been about the production numbers. I see comments all the time complaining to Mattel about increasing production. Mattel will increase production because demand is there. This takes months to implement as Toyguru has mentioned. I completely understand about a business not wanting to get stuck with product.

My complaint is the service. The Digital River shopping cart has never worked well at all. You should not have items sold out from under you that you just got placed in the cart. They should be reserved for at least a minute so you can complete your transaction. I know there are shopping carts that can do this. Ever order tickets from ticketmaster? You have two minutes to decide if you want to buy or add other items to the cart.

I am currently fighting with Digital River right now because they cancelled my subscription because UPS could not find my new address and returned my Trap-Jaw order. Did they send Trap-Jaw back? No. They first, cancelled my subscription. Second, they refunded my monthly figure charge even after the guy on the phone said they would resend the figure. I had to call and email and get things "escalated" in order to just find out if my subscription had indeed been cancelled. It was.

I got an email Monday morning, 3/15 Moss Man sale day, that if I wanted to reinstate my subscription I had to call Digital River. I am on the West Coast so the sale time is at 9am. Not only am I trying to order thru their "wonerful" shopping cart but I am on hold trying to make sure that my subscription will be reinstated before Moss Man is gone. Again, I successfully added him to the cart. Started to check-out and got that message that an item in my cart was no longer available. This is 4 minutes after 9am. Ridiculus!

I am still on hold waiting to get my subscription renewed. The rep comes on the line and gets my trouble-ticket number. Here's the odd part. He renews my subscription. I tell him that I had purchased two subsriptions. He says OK. I ask him if he has any record to check. He says I can see that your previous order was for two. I ask why he was only going to give me one subsription then. He said I had two now. Then he says he needs to add Moss Man to the shopping cart. I told him it looks like he sold out already. He said that he can still add him and he does. He tells me that I will be getting my two Moss Man figures that I subscribed for. Hooray!

I check my bank account a little later. Where I used to get the two figures as one order with one round of tax and shipping, I see that I now got charged for two separate shipments. Two charges for $31.17 instead of one charge for $52.89. Looks like it's back to calling Digital River customer service.

I say fix the shopping cart or you are going to lose even more of us.

Thanks for copy and pasting your useless monthly BS again... Maybe you should try something new...
How about...
"We are sorry you are frustrated... We definitely dropped the ball on this one"
What an insane idea!
Instead of feeding us the same canned crap every month, how about APOLOGIZING??? Just once? Hold YOURSELF accountable for your lack of foresight, instead of blaming Digital River or (of all things) YOUR CUSTOMERS! Your copy and paste non-answers are growing tiresome, and your broken-record refrain of "You should have bought a subscription" is completely rude and obnoxious. What about collectors who came to the line AFTER the 2010 sub was no longer available? How are they supposed to purchase a subscription? Should they invent a time machine?. Trying to get a straight answer out of you about ANYTHING is like asking the White House press secretary about a matter of national security. ("How will Orko Be Packaged?" "You'll have to wait and see." "Will we see any other 200X characters in 2010 besides Keldor and Marzo?" "I can't discuss any unannounced figures... But buy a subscription and these unnamed figures will arrive at your door with no hassle!" (BTW, you're admitting your website, mattycollector.com, IS A HASSLE whenever you say that). If you were solely a PR rep for MATTEL, you'd have been fired ages ago for saying stuff like that. You'd be better off saying "No Comment".
How about instead of giving us the "Cover-Our-Butts" runaround, you just man up? An apology would go a long way towards easing people's frustration. Blaming us, the consumer, for not having a subscription is just about the most unforgivable thing you could possibly do. If I EVER spoke to a customer in such a manner at MY job, I would no longer have that job. MOTUC will die a horrible death if this crap continues much longer, and I will be the first to weep hysterically over its grave!

Where is that quote? Not that I'm doubting you, I just wish it was a stickied at the top of the forum for all to see like many of Toy Guru's other posts (unless it already is and I missed it).

Anyone that believes this is not part of the grand plan - you are sadly mistaken..

Moss man who's "numbers" where the same as Adora - and sells out in seconds versus a few hours..

C'mon LETS LOOK AT THIS.. EVERY FIGURE HAS SOLD OUT FASTER THEN THE ONE BEFORE IT as we get CLOSER and CLOSER to the subs.. and EVERY ****ING RESPONSE FROM MATTY IS BUY A SUB..

REALLY!?!! All they want is people to sub.. Why don't they just admit - this.. and just switch this to a sub only line.. Every month show the new figure and let people buy into the sub at a prorated cost..

So In Dec you buy a years sub for the next year - in january you buy the sub for 11 figs and miss the jan figure (**** that is whats happening now anyhow)

There was NO reason for a 2 minute sell out for Moss-Man other then Matty didnt put them all up.. I promise - you walk into SDCC or C2E2 and there will be Moss-Man's for sale - they did the same thing with He-Man and Skelly and Beast Man.. its ******** but its what Matty is getting good at..

FIX THE SHOPPING CART --- Start making improvements instead of excuses.

...I love this line, and it's annoying having something in your cart only to find out it's already sold out before you could click the pay button...but as long as they keep re-releasing the Figs with enough numbers to sataisfy all customers, I won't complain too much.
I got on late, so I missed both He-Man releases, Faker, Hordac, etc...
I'll never buy the Sub; I think most of the Figs look great, but some are just lame...in my opinion. Come on, tell me Randor doesn't look like the Burger King! haha Sorry, I don't need to pay $29 for a Burger King figuer. I don't need Teela, or Adora, or She-Ra either. Just me! Smiler
My point is that, I think the vast majority of the customers out there are like me, and Matty knows this. Unless they're the only company out there that doesn't want to make as much Money as possible, they'll surley ramp up their production numbers in the next half of this year, and from their on. They probably based this years production, or at least the first half of this years production based on last year's Sub's...and we all know this line is gaining popularity every day; so the quick sell outs really are to be expected.
This kind of nich toy/collector line just realisticly can't produce mass product numbers right off the bat in this type of economy. They're clearly supprised and were caught off guard at just how popular this line would be.
So, I guess what I'm ultimately saying is that yea, it sux right now not getting that instant gratification of smelling Moss Man, or staring at Battle Cat sitting on my shelf...but I'm resting easy knowing that in a matter of months I'll be able to buy the reissues! It doesn't bother me that it'll say "the Original" on the box.
I misssed both He-Man releases, and of course Faker, and Hordak... Figs I really want, but I already know I'll get them in the future.
I think within the next year, Matty will get it all togeather and all of these issues will be in the past...so hang in there all of you fellow Non-Sub MOTUC collectors! I really think better days are ahead, and we'll all ultimately end up with all the figs we want without getting gouged in the secondary market... I hope! Smiler

Xxxxxx wasn't produced in any quota smaller to xxxx and xxxx. But it all does come out in the end.

Either way, at the end of the day the line is clearly picking up more and more fans as we go along and we are doing our best to keep up. Production will increase but it doesn't happen overnight as raw materials are purchased many months before a figure goes on sale.

We'll also continue to make improvements with Digital River and we do have a laundry list of corrections we are still implementing in the buying process.

A lot of fans are asking specifically about the 10 per order limit (which was demanded by fans after our initial 4 per person limit was rejected as being "not enough!").

Well, once again I went through every order today and once again VERY few customers are ordering 10 (in fact very few order more then 4). I know people are seeing a ton of xxxxxx on the secondary market, but remember, we offered subscriptions in the summer of 2010 and customers were allowed an unlimited amount of subscriptions. It is very likely some fans bought subscriptions for the sole purpose of reselling them. And you know what, they have every right to do this.

The subscriptions were open for 3 weeks and anyone could buy as many as they needed or wanted. Their really was not a more fair way to offer an alternative to waiting each month to buy the non subscription production. If you wanted to buy figures right from Mattycollector.com and not a reseller, the chance was open for every monthly figure in 2010.

We will increase production as demand continues to go up and I'm sure Xxxxxx will be back in time (but I can tell you it won't be in 2010). The 2011 subscription will be available starting the Wednesday night of SDCC 2010. For those customers who want their figures guaranteed with no wait and no hassle, be sure to take advantage of this buying method!

We'll keep working to bring the best product we can to you. There is never a resting point. Long live MOTUC!

Scott

A few well placed "Xxxxxx"s and now you can just copy/paste this statement from month to month instead of trying to put a new spin on it each time. Just replace the xxxxxx with the character of your choice and 99% of the work is done for you.

If you are going to be nice enough to make a template, can you go the extra mile and fix the grammatical errors, too? Smiler

It's good news, Scott. Thanks for the Moss Man update!

Call Digital River. I had to do that with Man-At-Arms last month with Trap Jaw and Battle Cat and they refunded my shipping on the second order. Call the 952 area code Digital River. You'll get a helpful Phillipino guy.

You know TG it would REALLY help the fans of this line if you guys announced all the reissues planned so far (either with a specific month in mind or just planned), ebay prices would come down immediately

Well, i am done trying to log in on the 15th trying to get one figure, and not being able to do it, i am sick of it. I will not be back to try to get any MOTUC. The bottom line is that its just not meant for everyone to get a figure from this site. Mattel has shown us that over and over, so its time for us to believe it. Only some collectors get these figures, while the rest of us are left high and dry. I truly believe that Mattel wants this line to remain "collectible" and "exclusive and elusive" so they will never ever make them available to everyone who wants them the day they are released. I believe mattel wants the hype, the crying and complaining and the controversy. All these things create a mystique that surrounds this line that will cause it to be legendary for years to come. Face it guys, we are just pawns in mattels ultimate scheme to create the definitive collectible action figure line!!!

My instance with Mossman was no different I guess. I clicked on the item when it said add to cart but it wouldn't add it to my cart. I had to go back twice to try again and by then it was out of stock of course. Subscribers and non-Mossman/Trapjaw/Battlecat fans can bemoan the naysayers all they want but when a buying system online is as ridiculous as this one is you have to laugh. Without a doubt, Mattel lost money, not just in units they could have sold but they are breaking the spirit of buying the line in general.
I have ordered a lot of Sideshow Toys collectables over the years and never had the weird situations come up that I have with Matty. Yeah, they sell out in seconds too, but if I get one into my cart, it stays there. Also they have a great little thing called a wait list. What Mattel doesn't seem to understand and Sideshow understands very well, is if you offer a preorder sale, you give only a general time frame for release in case production gets stuck. Then, for unexpected sales above and beyond, you offer a wait list. Months later, when they're produced, a lot of wait list customers get their figures. Sideshow has been very successful doing it this way for years now. Matty could learn a thing or two.
