So just opened up all of the Wave 2 figures...So here is my quick take on the good, the bad, and the disgruntled!

First the good: Two Face, Black Manta, and Batman look really good! The sculpts are energetic and provide the right look.

The Bat Cowl is surprisingly much better in person and Batman is my favorite.

The thong issue will bother some...however not all of the figures have it. I purchased 2 Batman and only one is wearing the unsightly thong.

The Emblems are also problematic and suffer from the same stretching issue...so choose carefully if you can.

The Biggest problem with all of these figures is the bodies...still the same...droopy, lifeless, poorly strung bits that are not worth the hefty 20 price. I spent 10 more on a functional body and slapped Batman and Co. on some Zica bodies and I suddenly became a VERY happy camper!

Kinda wish the Aqua man head were better....he should have had more of the look and attitude of the photo on the card....however the coolness of Black Manta and Two-Face make up for it!

Mattel really needs to stop blowing smoke about the bodies and fix them. Since they make all of their money on Barbie this shouldn't be too tough for them to engineer and execute. Get it right so this line can have much greater mass appeal.

So all in all....despite the useless bodies....I give this crew a B+ and see some definite improvement from the original design team. I really like what they did with the Cowl. The sculptor who worked on the villains was inspired and he should also be tapped for the heroes as well! Without immediately replacing the bodies I would have been amazingly disappointed and probably graded this wave a D+.

Mattel needs to acknowledge that they made a mistake with these bodies from the get-go.
Anyway...check out Zica toys if you want to enjoy your Retro Figures.

Can't wait to hear what you all think!

I just received my series 2 DC retro figures today and I love them. My favorite is Black Manta, but the whole series turned out better then I expected. The Batman thong issue was overblown because mine looks fine. If anything Aquaman has a thong, not Batman. I was impressed with the SDCC pics of Wonder Woman and can't wait to add some females to the collection. Let us hope that this line continues for at least a couple of years so we can have between 25-30 figures to display.

I only got Batman and Aquaman, but they both look great - much better than the prototypes or photos.

What differences do you see between the finished product and the prototype?

All of the costumes fit better. Batman's cowl seems to look a little more snug and not quite as 'helmet-like. The scales on Aquaman's costume don't look like they were drawn on with a sharpie. So - yes, they are better looking than the prototypes.

Not by ANY stretch of the imagination. The changes you prefer were made by Mattel in the production process. Mattel does what it can given the initial prototype by Emcee. So if Emcee utilized better sculpts, costumes, and design choices etc...we will see the end result in a better product.
