Hey everyone, I am new to post but not to this site. Now that the SDCC Mattel panel has revealed RETRO ACTION WAVE 4, What do you think of the choices of the characters that were chosen?
I think all good choices - particularly Martian Manhunter and Darkseid - I'll definitely be getting those. I'm just a little uncertain as to why Martian Manhunter needs a body suit, but I still like it.
STRANGE choices on Manhunter and Darkseid. Unfortunately the design flaws make Shazam and Black Adam much less desirable. I can live with Manhunter but the stay puft design on Darkseid is moronic. Mattel should produce this character after they have designed a working body for it. I guess since they have not even produced a regular hero mainstream body this is just way too much to ask for.

They did show very early prototypes which need some work. I LIKE the character selection, Shazam was always a favorite of mine.
Captain Marvel/Shazam's head needs work he looks like a retarded person. Black Adam needs some work too. He looks too Vulcan and not enough Evil. Note to Mattel watach the Brave and the Bold episode with Black Adam in it to get a better reference. I think Martain Manhunter looks great - Finally, somebody got the correct Martian Green color on the character!
Darkseid needs MAJOR work. He looks bloated and has a very poor headsculpt. Note to Mattel if you create a Bigger Muscular Body type you could use it for Darkseid, and future characters like Atrocitus, Bane, Doomsday, Lobo, Mongul, Despero, etc.
The designers will not change it. Funny how the ultimate fans given the opportunity to bring Mego back have done such a poor job providing Mattel with stellar prototypes. Captain Marvel's look is really odd.

I can't blame ya! The design and sculpted heads leave much to be desired. Unfortunately whoever is holding the reins on this project seems to be clueless about how to bridge the gap between a mego and a new toy that was simply inspired by nostalgia that meets the needs of modern collectors. It seems that inflated egos and poor design decisions make lousy figures.

Weird sanctimonious ramblings from Emce reveal a new body is in the works but offer NO insight or details on how or WHEN the numerous issues will be addressed. They also reveal that the line will continue for at least two more years despite the shoddy prototypes and lackluster work they have been promoting as worthy of the hefty pricetag.

Problem is, all they'd need to do is go back and look at the Megos. The head sculpts, though often not dead on comics accurate, were light years beyond the soft, lazy, often sloppy work I'm seeing here. Mego was known for cutting corners wherever possible, just like Mattel, but still produced products almost 40 years ago that are just plain better than what Mattel is making now. The Diamond Trek figures and the recent Dark Shadows figures put every single thing Mattel has produced in this line to absolute shame. I haven't seen the Flash Gordon figures in person yet, but those look to do the same.
Neither Mego nor Mattel's Superman head is really based on a particular version of Big Blue, but the 40 year old Mego sculpt still beats the new one on every level. And as much maligned as the old Aquaman is with his pointy ears, it's a piece by DaVinci compared to the laughable, detail bereft piece of vinyl plopped on the new version.
And from the photos, I'm outright scared to see Wonder Woman in person. Heaven knows what Mattel did to the female body...
