The 12 inch Superman shown at SDCC is awesome! Now it looks like a must have figure, I can't wait to buy this one.

They are also going to re-release General Zod and make a Lex Luthor too.

Cool. When I asked Matty if the 12" Zod figure will be re-released, it was stated that he will along with the Christopher Reeve Superman! Both this December--I am so there!

The Hot Toys Superman has officially been announced according to their facebook page if anyone is interested. Looks like a winter release too. Will be passing on the Mattel version for this one.

Admittedly, Hot Toys makes an awesome product. I picked up a couple of the Alien and Predator kits. My favorite is Ellen Ripley in the Power Loader!
As for Superman, I will be content with the Matty version. It will cost around $120 less than Hot Toys version.

I'm wondering if this line will disappear now that Hot Toys will being doing their own versions.

The General Zod figure has a mini mural on the side like the Ghostbusters 12" figures. Since Toy Guru has stated Non ansd Ursa are not planned I'm wondering if we will get a Gene Hackman Luthor and a Margot Kidder Lois in her red and white suit.

Is this figure EVER going to come out?

C'mon Mattel. It's been a year since Zod. Get your act together.

It's supposed to be out for 'holiday' release - which means within a couple of months. Matty showed a new improved prototype at SDCC this summer and that's when they said we'd see it, but that's the last time it's been mentioned. I really hope it's announced within the next week or so and that we WILL see it before Christmas, or I'm going to be really disappointed.

I'm sure it will be one of December's sale items (I hope anyway!)

Considering I just saw the prototype in Toyfare (I think it was Toyfare) for a Gene Hackman Luthor, I'd have to assume the Reeve Superman is on the way. I passed on Zod because the outfit looked pretty bad, but the Supes shown at SDCC looked pretty good. I got the old Mego 12" Supes back in the day because he was the closest to a movie Superman with the original headsculpt, but this one really seems to capture Reeve well. Gonna be hard to pass on him. Or Lex.

Hey Scott, how does Luthor look? I can't find a pic anywhere on the net!

Only thing on the net I've found is link to a scan from Toy Fare someone posted on Raving Toy Maniac. I hesitate to post that link here because TF turns three consecutive shades of purple at any site that does post scans (or links to such) of their mag (and I understand that).

The likeness actually looks pretty good, although the changeable hair pieces may be a bit iffy. I'd leave him bald, myself, as I think Hackman really was a dead ringer for a Curt Swan Luthor with the bald cap on. The suit looks like one he wore in the movie, and doesn't look cheaply made as Zod's outfit did.

I was going to just go for the Supes in this line, but I'm going to be hard pressed to pass on this. I loved Hackman's Luthor (he basically stole the show in Superman II), and this is a good representation of him.

What I want to know is what other characters will complete the mural on the side of the packaging? Toy Guru, from what I have read second hand, has stated that Non and Ursa are not currently planned. The mural seems to stretch across at LEAST 4-5 characters' packages (similar to the rooftop battle pic on the side of the Ghostbusters 12 inch packaging). So who are they making??? Miss Tessmaker? Otis? Makes you wonder!

Personally, after Superman and Luthor, I don't think we'll see any more. I'm not sure why I think that, just a gut feeling, I guess. I had hoped Superman would be out this year, but at this point I don't think we'll see him until 2011, or it would have been announced by now. Fates - please let me be wrong!
