Whew! It's been quite an adjustment period for all of us on The Matty Forums, since us new mods shown up on the scene a few weeks ago. Some changes have been made that not everybody understood, or liked, but the overall response has been pretty positive!
So, before anything else, we mods want to thank all you guys for all your patience, understanding, and support! You guys rock!!! So, one of the most noticeable changes that took place on here, has been the organization of threads. Some members have asked, why the change? Well, heres the deal... First and foremost, the rule for thread topics and the posts within is that they stay on topic and in their proper sections. For example, if you post a, "Silverhawks" topic in The MOTUC boards, or an, "Invincible" topic in The DCUC boards, they're going to get relocated to the "Off-topic" boards of The Specialty section. Another example is, if you post a topic about how your order didn't go through, thats going to the, "Customer Service" thread. If you have a "Hey Matty", "Hey Scott", or "Toyguru, why don't you (fill in the black)", thats all going to, "The Ask Matty" thread. This is done for two reasons. The first is to keep discussion threads on topic in their designated areas, so members can read and participate in only the particular discussions they want to. The second is for all service issues and feedback/questions threads from members to go to the right places, so they don't get lost in the shuffle, and assure they get seen. See, as The Joker would say, "it's all part of the plan". OK, now lets talk about the closing and renaming of threads. While there isn't an "official" rule per say about closing any threads, as it's more of a guideline we're following. Heres an example of our logic... Lets say in The MOTUC boards, people want to talk about Trap Jaw (I know I do!). If it's a general discussion about the character of Trap Jaw itself, such as his incarnation in The Filmation cartoon, The MYP cartoon, The Mini comics, or The New Bios, they can all go into one thread. If theres a side discussion about aspects of Trap Jaw's MOTUC figure, whether it's about the sculpt/features, the sale of it in any regards, or about the packaging details, that could constitute another separate thread. So, if those two threads exist, then somebody posts a topic like, "My Trap Jaw figure has a green face", that new thread is going to get closed and be redirected to the existing thread about Trap Jaw's figure. Now, sometimes a member will post a Trap Jaw topic that they're not sure will fit in an existing thread. So, if you post a topic like, "Does Trap Jaw like Key-Lime Pie?", we'll probably let that one be...but if that same member, or another member posts a thread like, "Does Scareglow like Pumpkin Pie?", those two threads will be combined into something like, "What Pies do you think The Masters like?" To elaborate on that last part further... In some cases, some threads will get created that will start a trend and clutter the forums, like, "VS" threads. When those pop-up, they'll usually get combined into one catch all thread. Sometimes, certain exceptions can be made depending on if it's a big enough brand to warrant an extended discussion, like, "MOTU vs Thundercats", or "Marvel vs DC"...but if it's something like, "Freddy vs Jason vs Orko", or "The Red Lanterns vs The Smurfs" those are going to get closed and redirected to their respective, MOTUC vs (fill in the blank) and DC vs (fill in the blank) threads, along with all the other various random ideas. I know with such a wide range of ideas all lumped together in one thread may not always appeal to every member, but we've found most trend threads last only about a page and then die off. In the meantime, other threads get bumped to the back, and lost in the crowd. Sometimes members will search out those threads, but many times, another duplicate thread will get made. The new duplicates adds to the clutter, pushing the existing threads back even further into limbo. See, it's a vicious cycle! Another thing we'd like to clarify is, "Custom Threads". To keep things streamlined, we'd like all our members pictures of their custom figures to go in one thread per area (MOTUC, vintage MOTUC, DCUC, JLI, WWE, Toy Story, etc...), regardless whether it's a figure, vehicle, beast, playset, or anything else. For example, if you have a pic of your custom made, Indigo Lantern Ray Palmer, and another member has a pic of their custom made, Sinestro Corps Scarecrow, they would both go in The DCUC Customs Thread. Your custom MOTUC Batros would go into the MOTUC Custom Thread, your custom vintage Shadow Weaver in The Vintage POP Custom thread, etc... This logic also applies to, "Picture Threads" of Mattel products too. If you took pictures of your Aquaman at the bottom of The Pacific Ocean, and another member took a picture of Captain cold in your freezer, they would both go in The, "Pictures of your DCUC figures" thread ...but, if you have a picture of a Deadman variant and, The Spectre variant, and a MOTUC Scareglow in a cemetery type setting (I'm giving you ideas, people!), that could go in both The DCUC and MOTUC picture threads. Like I said, these are the guidelines that seem to be working favorably so far. Please keep in mind, though, things are always subject to change, and certain aspects will be handled case by case with our discretion. We're not trying to censor, stifle, or make you guys kneel before Zod! By organizing The Forums this way, it keeps all the discussions active, current, and in the "public eye" so to speak. We want all our threads to be rockin' and enjoyed by everyone! I hope that helps add a little clarity to the matter. ...and don't forget, if you're ever not sure, you can always PM one of the mods. We love talking to you guys and are always glad to help! Thanks again and enjoy! This message has been edited. Last edited by: BRUTICUS, "Heroic Master of The Hammer" |
