The Official Mattel WWE Guys |
Calling all WWE fans! Do you have questions about Mattel's WWE figure line? If so, this is the place to post them.
Every month we'll start an official Q&A thread on the MattyCollector forums and invite you to post your questions on everything WWE. At the end of the month we'll pick our favorite questions and post answers here. We can't answer every question, especially about who will be appearing in unannounced waves, because we like to hold back big announcements for events and our Facebook page. Also, questions or complaints specific to a product should go through Mattel Customer Care at 800-524-8697. But everything else is fair game. So ask away! And continue to post your discussions and suggestions here in the MattyCollector forums. We may not always be able to join in the conversations, but rest assured that we keep a close eye on these forums and other WWE collector boards. |

Awesome. I was hoping the WWE portion of Mattel would start taking questions.
When is the Action League style WWE line supposed to hit retail and are there any accessories planned for that line? What's a wrestling toy line without a ring to put the figures in? Thank you. |

When are the Nexus figures going to come out and how will they be sold-individually, as a set, in limited quantities or genereal release? Also why is the price point for Elite series figures so high? 15 dollars a piece makes it very hard to collect complete sets..Would Mattel consider lowering the price and still maintain the amazing quality?

Are there any plans to sell anything from the WWE line on mattycollector.com aside from the SDCC Undertaker?

Is it a possibility that we will see international stars in the Legends line ? IE : Mil Mascaras , Dos Caras , Carlos Colon.

like the list...mattel could really do justice to a lot of the masked wrestlers of the 80's instead of rehashing the same boring modern day shmucks...what would it take for wwe or mattel to get a liscence to produce masked mexican classic superstars like mil masaras dos caras rayo de jalisco el villano v octago perro aguayo..mattys team would make these figs look unbeleivable...

Will we be seeing female wrestlers/managers in the Legends line? That Macho Man figure is going to be lonely without Miss Elizabeth to accompany him to the ring...

Okay, here are your answers!
Look for them in early 2011. We agree with you on the ring. One of the great things about a smaller scale is that it opens up a lot of opportunities for rings, playsets, and accessories!
As part of our answer to this, keep in mind that manufacturing action figures is a surprisingly long process. We can turn around repaints quickly, as you've seen with our pay-per-view mixes, but sculpting up entirely new figures can take nine months or more. As a result there will always be some lag between what's in the entertainment and what you see on store shelves. Also, believe it or not, we typically don't know what's going to happen in the entertainment until we see it on TV. So the amazing impact made by the Nexus was as much a surprise to us as it was to the rest of the WWE Universe. All that is a long way of explaining why you won't see Nexus figures until next year. Expect to see them treated like the rest of the roster, incorporated into our various lines. As for whether you can also get them as a complete set, that would partially depend on fan demand. How would you guys want to collect them?
That's just the problem! We want to provide great articulation so you can pose them realistically, we want to include full-color tattoos, and whenever possible we want to include great accessories. You'll see that in Basic figures sometimes we make compromises, like with the color or amount of tattoos, but Elites is the line where we build our ideal figures and charge for what that extra detail costs us. So prices won't be going down, but I can say the Elites and Legends coming in the first half of 2011 are going to be some of our best yet.
Right now we don't have any announcements to make on that front, but we're always looking for ways to make cool new exclusives. As we build our fanbase here, on Facebook, and on other WWE figure discussion boards, we'll be looking to see if there's appetite for a MattyCollector line.
What, Iron Sheik and Kamala aren't "international" enough for you?
We're looking at doing some managers, and some female stars, but whether we do both at the same time is TBD. Alright, that's all for August! We'll start a September thread soon. In the meantime, feel free to keep discussing the August Q&A in this thread. |

I really, really, REALLY hope the proposed female Legend wrestler is Trish Stratus! Giver her long jacket, a hat and the Women's Championship Belt and we would have a winner.

Thank you for answering my previous question. Not trying to be difficult , and maybe I misunderstood ,but if you were saying Mil Mascaras didnt play a big enough part in WWF history ,he DID fued with Superstar Billy Graham for the world title in the WWWF .He was also the first masked wrestler allowed to work under the hood @ Madison Square Garden.
1. I noticed that every Mattel Legends figure thus far has been produced by another company at one time or another. How high of a priority is it for Mattel to produce Legends figures that have never been immortalized in plastic before ? (Examples might include: Killer Khan or The Missing Link) 2. I have faith that every 80s-90s star is being eyed as a possible figure , but what about some of the guys that played major roles in "The Fed" in the 70s? (Examples might include: Stan Hansen or Larry Zybysko) 3. Are there any plans for father/son two-packs ?(Examples might include: Carlos Colon+Primo or Dos Caras+Alberto Del Rios) " WRESTLING : In Canada, it's a Tradition... in Mexico, it's a Religion.... in Japan, it's a Sport... in America.... I don't read it as them downplaying Mascaras or the other people you mentioned. I think they were just giving you the basic criteria for any wrestler to get a Legends figure.
Mattel has a long tradition of not being specific on characters/people before they have been offically announced. So I wouldn't read in to the reply too much. I do hope they do get to some of the International Legends in time. Mashiro Chono, Great Muta, Jushin Thunder Liger and Antonio Inoki are all on my want list. |

When will the September Q&A be up?

For women in Legends, Wendi Richters name should be near the top of the list.
Jakks more or less ignored the 80's female competitors (though we got Moolah thankfully). I know it would be hard to sell a Judy Martin figure....but that's what '1 out of 2' case ratio's are for. A Wendi Richter/Cyndi Lauper exclusive Wrestlemania 1 two-pack would be all kinds of awesome. |
