The simpsons is timeless, and even though it doesn't seem as funny as 10 years ago, its still very funny and loads funnier than most shows which try to pass as comedy nowadays. I think at some point during the past 10 years it become popular/cool to say the simpsons is now old and should be removed, when in reality there is nothing as universally liked that is still funny for all ages. Family guy, ahh family guy yes its funny but it relies on shock value, which means most of it looses its appeal when rewatched, there are the odd good original funny episodes that don't rely heavily on shock value and "remember the time i.." cut aways but it doesn't hold a candle to The simpsons American Dad is pretty good too, the fact it doesn't do cut away humour is a good thing South Park makes a good show, when you take into consideration every episode is well a well thought out satirical view point on something. At face value its obscene and uses shock humour, but like the simpsons it has a hidden meaning/moral/ or opinion of the writers running through the episode, and the stand point that nothing should be exempt from poking fun at is a good one, humour disarms the worst of things making it less powerful, and done right doesn't distract from it either or lessen it MOTU was none of those things, it was a kids TV show designed by adults, trying to dumb down everything when it was remade in 2002 by MYP they tried to improve it, gave it story arch's gave hidden meanings without slapping a don't do drugs type montage at the end that grown ups think kids want (hello its ignored they think its lame) but unfortunately bad marketing and scheduling made it fail in the US, in the UK it was on at prime time on a Kids channel that was/is highly popular.

The Simpsons cartoon series were originally cartoon shorts aired on The Tracey Ullman Show back in 1987. I am currently watching Good Night, the 1st episode (In theory, I've never watched any Simpsons episode back then). "This is the ultimate power"
